Wanyawu Kiln Site

The Wanyawu Kiln Site is located on the slopes of Wanyawu in the northwest of Jinxing Natural Village, Lantian Village, directly opposite the brick and tile factory of Jinxing Village. The site covers a relatively large area of about 10,000 square meters, with thick cultural layers reaching 1–2 meters in depth, and is relatively well-preserved.

At the end of 2011, the Jingdezhen Ceramic Archaeological Research Institute, in collaboration with the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University and Jingdezhen Ceramic University, conducted an archaeological survey and rescue excavation at Wanyawu in Lantian Village. The excavation revealed a layer of red-fired earth (possibly remnants of kiln structures) as well as a collection of celadon-glazed ceramics from the Tang to the Five Dynasties period, white-glazed ceramics from the Five Dynasties, bluish-white ceramics from the Song Dynasty, and kiln tool samples from various periods. Among the unearthed items, celadon-glazed ceramic samples accounted for 90%.

Lantian Village: Historically, Lantian Village has always been part of Xianghu Town, one of the “Four Famous Historic Streets” of Fuliang County. During the Tang Dynasty, the ancestors of Lantian built kilns against the mountains to produce celadon-glazed ceramics while also being known for tea production. In the Song Dynasty, the area around Lantian Village flourished with “kiln fires in every village and pottery-making in every household.” In the early Ming Dynasty, the Li family migrated here from Qimen County, Anhui, and established the settlement called Liji. By the late Ming Dynasty, Liji Village had prospered, with merchant ships frequently docking there, turning it into a bustling trade hub, hence the name was changed to Lijibu (Liji Port).
