Meng Lake

Meng Lake is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Meng Lake is located to the west of Linchuan District in Fuzhou City, within the jurisdiction of Zhongling Subdistrict Office. It connects to Fenggang River upstream and Fuxi River downstream. Historically, it was a low-lying area prone to flooding, suffering from waterlogging nine out of ten years. During the spring and summer rainy seasons, thousands of acres of surrounding lowlands were submerged, threatening the lives and property of local residents. Even Tang Xianzu, known as the "Shakespeare of the East," could only sigh at the sight of the flooded homeland and entrust his dreams to it. In April 2007, the municipal Party committee and government carried out a comprehensive transformation of the Meng Lake lowland in line with the goals of flood control, drainage, resource utilization, ecological replenishment, and urban landscape benefits. The Fenggang River upstream was dredged, and the Meng Lake lowland was turned into an artificial lake.

Meng Lake is the largest local water conservancy project in the history of Fuzhou’s urban area. It is a key project implemented by the city to expand and beautify the urban landscape, enhance the city’s charm, improve urban functionality, and upgrade the living environment. With limited urban construction funds, the municipal Party committee and government skillfully leveraged market forces to create a grand blueprint for urban development. Yongchen Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., tasked with the development and construction of Meng Lake, meticulously planned and designed the project, fully reflecting the profound and long-standing regional cultural characteristics of Fuzhou while complementing the existing natural and cultural landscapes.

According to the project manager, since the commencement of the Meng Lake project last year, the first phase goal—dyke construction—was fully completed by the end of November 2007; the second phase, including slope protection, seepage prevention, sluice gates, and square greening, was completed by the end of June 2008; and the third phase, comprising the Meng Bridge, floating bridge, roads, lakeside greening, walking paths, pavilions on Meng Island, and lakeside landscape lighting, was finished by the end of August.
