The Site of the Autumn Harvest Uprising Military Parade Square (Dashazhou) is a cultural relic protection unit of Tonggu County and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Site of the Autumn Harvest Uprising Military Parade Square—Dashazhou

The Parade Square is located on Dashazhou at the bridgehead in the county seat of Tonggu County, covering a total area of 12,000 square meters. It was the site where Mao Zedong personally inspected and led the troops of the Autumn Harvest Uprising as they set off on their uprising.

After the “April 12” Incident in 1927, on May 1st, the county labor union and peasant association held a mass rally of over 20,000 people on Dashazhou at the bridgehead to celebrate International Workers’ Day and denounce Chiang Kai-shek’s heinous crimes of betraying the revolution and slaughtering workers and peasants.

In the early hours of September 11, 1927, officers and soldiers of the Third Regiment of the Autumn Harvest Uprising forces gathered at Dashazhou—the Parade Square. Comrade Mao Zedong inspected the fully prepared Third Regiment here, announced the uprising, and personally led the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops under the banner of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army. They marched through Wenquan, Shiqiao, and Shangzhuang toward Baisha in Liuyang. This was the first military parade in Mao Zedong’s military career.

As an important revolutionary site of the Autumn Harvest Uprising at the Hunan-Jiangxi Border, the Parade Square records the great revolutionary practices of the uprising and Comrade Mao Zedong. It is one of the key sites commemorating significant historical activities of our Party. At the same time, it witnessed the birth of a new army and had an extraordinary impact as the main birthplace of the First Regiment of the First Division of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army—Tonggu. The county government has listed this site as a key cultural relic protection unit. In 2010, it was named one of the top ten new discoveries of the third national cultural relics survey in Tonggu County. In 2012, it was designated as a Yichun City Patriotic Education Base.
