Located in Xiaotang Township, northeastern Fengcheng City, Jiangxi Province, it boasts excellent tourism transportation and geographical advantages. It is about 60 kilometers from Nanchang, the provincial capital, 17 kilometers from the Fengcheng Station of the Beijing-Kowloon and Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railways, and close to the Gan-Guang, Chang-Jiu, and Jiu-Jing expressways, making it easily connected to well-known domestic tourist routes such as Jinggangshan, Lushan, Longhu Mountain, Liukeng Village, and Jingdezhen. The Xiaotang ancient village cluster includes Houban Tang and Gantang Beixia Village, representing the highest level of local architectural art in Jiangxi. Houban Tang Village was first built during the Xuande era (1426–1436) of the Ming Dynasty, inhabited by a branch of the Tu clan. It is a historic cultural village that exemplifies the fusion of feudal officialdom and commerce, stark wealth disparity, and a strict hierarchical system. Houban Tang Village, located at 115°55′ east longitude and 28°13′ north latitude, covers an area of 156,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 4,216 square meters. The houses are arranged longitudinally from south to north. The village has 68 households and 226 residents, all surnamed Tu except for women who married into the village from elsewhere. With its abundance of ancient architecture, well-preserved structures, and exquisite carving craftsmanship, it stands out as the best in Jiangxi. The seamless integration of the ancient village with its surrounding environment makes it a prime example of the high unity between Chinese ancient architectural art and feng shui principles. The “Da Fu Mansion” architectural complex of Houban Tang is structurally intricate and grand in scale, featuring 36 courtyards of varying sizes, flat lanes, sturdy gables, and exquisitely detailed wood carvings. The carvings vividly depict birds, flowers, insects, fish, palaces, boats, carts, and human figures, representing the pinnacle of Chinese wood carving artistry. Scattered among the villagers are official garments, plaques, antiques, and more than 30 Han white jade ring-bearing stone pedestals — relics from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom court gifted by Peng Yulin, the Qing Dynasty’s naval commander. These are among the most treasured artifacts in the Xiaotang ancient village cluster. Though compact in size, Houban Tang Village is rich in tourism resources. The surrounding area features expansive landscapes, with the Dasan Mountain rising to the south, crisscrossed waterways, egrets soaring, and lotus flowers competing in beauty — offering picturesque scenery. Inside the village, the layout is neat, refined, and elegant, with clusters of ancient buildings that are both well-preserved and cohesive, combining aesthetics with practicality. The village also preserves numerous folk relics that blend knowledge and entertainment, making it a veritable “Little Paradise” in southern China. Current tourism activities include fishing, fruit and vegetable picking, boating, and folk performances.

Xiaotang Township: Xiaotang Township is located in the northeastern part of Fengcheng City, 17 kilometers from the city center, at 115.45° east longitude and 28.12° north latitude, with an elevation below 20 meters. The township spans 4.6 kilometers from east to west and 7.5 kilometers from north to south. It borders Baitu Town to the east, Zhangxiang and Shitan towns to the south, and Duan Tan to the north. Provincial Highway Xiaobai Line runs through the township, and roads connect all villages, ensuring convenient transportation. The town center is located in the western part of Xiaotang Township and serves as the hub for the township government as well as the political, economic, cultural, health, and transportation center of the entire township.
