Nine-Twists Eighteen-Chambers

Nine-Twists Eighteen-Chambers is located beside the road of Xiwang Dawo Village, 40 kilometers south of Fengcheng City. It is a mysterious natural cave, with winding passages inside, each chamber varying in size—hence the name “Nine-Twists Eighteen-Chambers.” Its peculiar shape and enigmatic interior have long captivated the imagination of heroes, warriors, scholars, and poets. Many have ventured into the cave to explore its mysteries, driven by the desire to witness its breathtaking beauty.

At the cave entrance lies a large square rock engraved with six bold and clear characters: “Namo Amitabha Buddha” (南无阿弥陀佛). Passing behind the rock, visitors are greeted by a series of uneven, winding, interconnected chambers of varying sizes—eighteen in total. These chambers resemble doorways, pavilions, bridge arches, courtyards, and fortresses, all naturally sculpted with extraordinary craftsmanship. The cave extends deep into darkness, its depths invisible and lightless. All that can be heard are the dripping sounds of water and the cool breeze brushing past, creating an otherworldly atmosphere akin to an “underwater celestial realm.”

Legend has it that eighteen golden chairs are hidden deep within the cave. But the cave’s depth remains unfathomable, and no one has yet explored it completely. A local folk rhyme goes: “Eighteen chambers, eighteen chambers, entering them is like passing through five gates. Golden chairs lie within, waiting for a hero to conquer the trials.” To this day, no one has reached the bottom. Two years ago, a brave man surnamed Xiao descended into the cave with a rope, but after lowering over 200 meters, he still hadn’t reached the end and had to turn back. Thus, the Eighteen-Chambers remain shrouded in mystery.
