Three-Tiered Waterfall

The Three-Tiered Waterfall, originally named “Di Shui Cao,” is located on the northern side of the central part of Luoshan in Fengcheng. It is a naturally-formed waterfall. Ten deep mountain streams converge above and cascade down steep cliffs. The waterfall is divided into three tiers: the upper tier plunges from the cliff top directly into a clear pool, twenty zhang high, resembling a Milky Way pouring into a pool, with shimmering cold light and a powerful surge; the middle tier, over ten zhang high, drops into a pool, splashing like flying snowflakes and dancing pearls, spectacular and dazzlingly beautiful; the lower tier cascades dozens of zhang down into an unfathomable abyss, where only the thunderous roar of water can be heard, shaking the mountains. Gazing into the distance, the three cascading flows stretch a thousand feet, as if the Milky Way were hanging upside down, with rolling white clouds, causing one’s ears to ring and eyes to dazzle, filling the heart with joy and inspiring boundless reverie. Qing Dynasty poet Hu Maosong wrote in his poem “Di Shui Cao”: “White silk hangs in the air from the blue cliff, cascading straight down to the great river. All who pass here and look up will see, just like the Lu Mountain waterfall.” This is the foremost wonder of Luoshan, and travelers throughout history have made it a must-see to admire its magnificent scenery.
