Longhan Waterfall

Longhan Waterfall is located in the northwest of the Yuhua Mountain Scenic Area, within the territory of Xiwang Township in the southern part of the city. This area features dense forests, fresh air, and the highest density of bamboo and woodland cover. Starting from Shangyan Village, one can traverse through a sea of swaying bamboo to reach Zhuojia in Gangli She Mountain, a basin nestled within the mountains. From afar, the sound of rushing water can be heard. A small, dragon-like stream winds its way through the valley and surges forth from the canyon.

Upstream, the creek forms a series of small cascades, ranging from 2 to 3 meters in height, which burst out from the forested hillsides and splash into the valley, creating a spectacle of frothy waves and a powerful roar. Further along the winding path, a pristine white ribbon-like waterfall comes into view — this is the long-concealed Longhan Waterfall, hidden in this pristine paradise.

Longhan Waterfall consists of two levels: the lower, larger Longhan Waterfall, with a drop of nearly 20 meters; and the upper, smaller one, about 10 meters high. The water gushes from a small pool and cascades down to form a grand waterfall and a crystal-clear pool. The deep pool covers an area of over 200 square meters, resembling an emerald embedded in the mountains, offering visitors a breathtaking sight.

There is also a touching legend about Longhan Waterfall. It is said that long ago, in Shijian Village downstream of Longxi, there was a young man surnamed Liu named “Xiao Ya’zai.” During a drought, while he was cutting firewood upstream of Longxi, a dazzling pearl jumped into his mouth and into his belly, transforming him into a dragon that then plunged into the deep pool. Since then, during times of drought, he would soar into the sky to summon wind and rain, bringing relief to the people. This story is still passed down among the locals to this day.
