Bell and Drum Village

Bell and Drum Village is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Bell and Drum Village is located southwest of Dongqiao Town in the southern part of Xiangdong District, Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province. It gets its name from the resemblance of two mountains to a bell and a drum, and carries the poetic meaning of “being entertained by bells and drums, and befriended by zithers and lutes.” Drum Mountain is tall and flat, with nearly 1,000 square meters of dry land at its summit and many rocky outcrops along its slopes. The largest rock outcrop is on the eastern side, where the Bao Gong Temple is built. A monument to martyrs stands midway up the mountain. On the eastern summit, a vein of purple stone extends downward like a nose bridge, with hundreds of stone steps beneath the ridge that seem to hang in midair, creating a thrilling sight. The Qing Dynasty poet Deng Yin once visited this place and left behind a quatrain:

Facing the flat peak atop the jagged crest,

Afternoon clouds and post-rain pines are the best.

It seems the immortal cave mirrors a Buddha’s domain,

With hanging evening drums and morning bells remaining.
