Taihe National Forest Park is a national-level forest park and a national water conservancy scenic area.

Also known as Egret Lake National Forest Park, Taihe National Forest Park is located at the foot of Jinggang Mountain. It is characterized by forest diversity, an egret habitat, and picturesque lakes and mountains, offering activities such as rafting, lake cruising, and adventure. Approved by the State Forestry Administration in December 2000, the park covers an operating area of 3,000 hectares. It is located in the western part of Taihe County, 40 kilometers from the county seat, with National Highway 319, which connects to Jinggang Mountain, running alongside the park.

1 Scenic Features

Egret Lake National Forest Park, also known as a national water conservancy scenic area, is referred to as the "Little Jiuzhaigou." With its winding 28-kilometer stretch and an area of 890 hectares, the lake boasts vast blue waters, egrets soaring overhead, surrounding mountains, and dense forests, creating stunning and pristine scenery.

The Nanche Reservoir, a key water conservancy project during Jiangxi Province's Eighth Five-Year Plan period, is the main attraction of the park. Located on the Liuba River originating from Jinggang Mountain, the reservoir’s lower reaches are named Egret Lake due to the frequent presence of egrets. The 28-kilometer scenic corridor of Egret Lake is breathtakingly beautiful and is often called the "Little Guilin" at the foot of Jinggang Mountain. The Qianjin Valley is fresh and elegant, flanked by peculiar rocks, splashing waterfalls, majestic peaks, and graceful landscapes. The "Emperor’s Statue" is vividly lifelike, the "Monkey Stone" is remarkably animated, the "Eagle Looking Back" appears ready to take flight, and the "Turtle Mountain" is strikingly realistic. Wild ducks play on the lake surface while egrets soar in the sky, offering a highly primitive charm. The forest park shares the same geological zone as Jinggang Mountain, featuring similar landform characteristics and geological structures.

2 Species Resources

Taihe National Forest Park serves as the gateway to the revolutionary holy land—Jinggang Mountain. The Nanche Reservoir, a key provincial water conservancy project from the Eighth Five-Year Plan period, is built on the Liuba River originating from Jinggang Mountain. The reservoir’s lower reaches are named Egret Lake due to the frequent presence of egrets. The vast blue waters and the lush green mountains on both sides form the core of the forest park, with a planned area of 3,000 hectares. Preliminary surveys have identified over 2,500 species of rare ancient trees and higher plants in the park, including the evergreen camphor, cyclocarya paliurus, narrow-leaved sweet osmanthus, nanmu, longpetioled dichilobium, stewartia gemmata, Tang camphor, Song camphor, Song cypress, Ming cypress, nageia, and loropetalum chinense. There are also around two to three dozen species of wild animals.

The park has a mid-subtropical monsoon climate, with abundant heat, distinct seasons, rainy springs to early summers, hot summers, dry late summers and autumns, and mild winters. The park features clear blue waters, emerald-green mountains, clustered peaks, lush forests, and fresh air. It is home to a rich variety of plants, including 2,500 species across 211 families and 935 genera of higher plants. Among them are rare tree species such as the evergreen camphor, cyclocarya paliurus, narrow-leaved sweet osmanthus, nanmu, longpetioled dichilobium, stewartia gemmata, Tang camphor, Song camphor, Song cypress, Ming cypress, nageia, and loropetalum chinense, as well as ancient trees like the Tang camphor, Song camphor, Song cypress, and Ming cypress. The park hosts around two to three dozen species of wild animals. The Wanglong Mountain within the park features steep and rugged terrain, with densely clustered peaks, sharp ridges, and the ruins of an ancient temple from the Qing Dynasty at its summit. The mountainside is home to the "Bat Cave," inhabited by numerous bats. Additionally, the park offers other developed natural and cultural tourist resources, such as Gaozy Mountain, Chaoxian Cliff, Nanmu Forest Leisure Resort, and the First Rafting Trip in Jinggang Mountain.

Qiaotou Town: Qiaotou Town is located in the western part of Taihe County, at the foot of Jinggang Mountain, covering an area of 253 square kilometers, making it the largest township in Taihe County by land area. The town currently has a population of 15,000 and administers 12 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee. The Nanche Reservoir, a key provincial water conservancy project with an installed capacity of 12,800 kilowatts, is located within the town and is one of Jiangxi Province’s timber forest base towns.
