Nanxi Ancient Path

In the late Qing Dynasty, Zhong Caihui, known for his benevolence and philanthropy, funded the construction of two ancient paths. One was a brick and stone-paved road leading from Jinxi across Yanshui Ridge to Taihe County; the other was a brick and stone path from Mianlu Ridge in Nanyuan to Sandu Market. The total length of the two paths was approximately 6.5 kilometers. Both were constructed with blue bricks arranged in a herringbone pattern, sturdy and durable underfoot, providing great convenience to all local porters carrying loads. Nowadays, the remnants of these two ancient paths can still be faintly traced but are largely incomplete, with most of the blue bricks either removed during the Cultural Revolution or having collapsed.

Stretching through Fangqiao, the two ancient paths in the surrounding areas — one from He Shi to Taihe and the other from Dianbei to Mashi — were both paved with stone slabs and blocks. There were also stone arch bridges among them, which were solidly built, aesthetically pleasing, and have withstood over a century of weathering while remaining in relatively good condition. The builders of these ancient paths can no longer be verified. On the eve of liberation, Zhong Fuxing from Zhouwei contributed to repairing the section of the path from Shiyang’ao to Upper and Lower Jiangwan.

The Gan-Guang Expressway runs across the entire township, with its exit just 0.5 kilometers from the township government. National Highway 319 and the Ji-Jing Expressway also pass through the area, and it is about 10 kilometers from Jinggangshan Railway Station.
