GuTai Site

The GuTai Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Hebei Province.

GuTai Site

The GuTai Site is situated on a terrace on the southern bank of the Qin River, north of Hucun Village, Hucun Township, Handan County. To its southeast is the Jian'gou Site. It covers an area of 4,000 square meters, with relics such as ash pits exposed on the eastern and northern cliffs, and a cultural layer 0.5–1 meter thick. In the autumn of 1957, Peking University and other organizations excavated the site, which was divided into nine strata, including cultural deposits from the Longshan Era, Pre-Shang, Zhou, and Han dynasties. Pottery from the Longshan Era includes both clay gray pottery and sand-tempered gray pottery, with decorative patterns such as checkered and basket weaves, and vessel shapes like li tripods, steamers, ding cauldrons, dou stemmed bowls, basins, and jars. Pre-Shang cultural remains mainly feature sand-tempered gray-brown pottery and clay gray pottery, with vessel types such as li tripods, ding cauldrons, urns, jars, and basins. Western Zhou pottery includes li tripods, dou stemmed bowls, basins, steamers, urns, fu vessels, and jars. It is now a key cultural heritage protection unit of Hebei Province.
