Chaoyanggou Scenic Area

The Chaoyanggou Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

　The Wuan Chaoyanggou Scenic Area is located in Liejiang Village, Guantao Township, Wuan City, in the deep mountainous revolutionary old area of western Handan —— 90 kilometers from Handan City and 65 kilometers from Wuan City.

This is the birthplace of Yang Lanchun, a famous modern Chinese opera playwright, and also the place where the widely acclaimed modern opera “Chaoyanggou” was created, with the main characters Yin Huan and Shuan Bao in the opera based on real people from here. As a distinguished modern opera writer, Yang Lanchun made indelible contributions to the history of Chinese opera, especially in the creation of modern drama. His Yu Opera “Chaoyanggou,” created in the 1960s, has been popular for nearly half a century, beloved by all social strata. Its storyline influenced several generations, especially across North China and the Central Plains region, where its impact was particularly significant.

The Chaoyanggou Scenic Area stretches from east to west, surrounded by mountains on three sides, featuring overlapping peaks, steep cliffs, rugged rocks, and a forest coverage rate of over 90% of the total scenic area. Covering eight square kilometers, the area includes 12 symmetrical gullies in the north and south, each with its own unique features. In spring, the area bursts with blooming flowers and birdsong; in summer, crystal-clear springs flow continuously. Climbing to the mountaintop offers a panoramic view of the entire scenic zone, providing a refreshing sense of openness and serenity — a natural “oxygen bar.” The Chaoyanggou Scenic Area has now become an important part of the Hebei Mingheyuan Forest Park. The Wuan Municipal Government has listed Chaoyanggou as a leading village in its first batch of projects for converting farmland back to forests to build an ecologically strong city.

Guantao Township: Located in the deep mountainous area of western Wuan City, Guantao Township sits at the junction of two provinces (Hebei and Shanxi) and three counties (Wuan, XX County, and Zuoquan), covering a total area of 188 square kilometers. It administers 38 administrative villages, 108 natural villages, with 5,900 households and a population of 18,500, including 11,000 able-bodied workers. The arable land area is 15,477 mu, including 3,110 mu of irrigated land and 12,367 mu of dry land, averaging 0.8 mu per person. Due to a lack of underground resources and limited local enterprises, the economic conditions are relatively underdeveloped. In 2005, the per capita income was 2,035 yuan.
