Hutou Town

Hutou Town is located in the northeastern part of the county, 34 kilometers from the county seat. Before the Five Dynasties, it was called Langhu; in the early Northern Song Dynasty, it was known as Hushan; and during the reign of Emperor Xiaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty, it began to be called Hutou. The town boasts picturesque landscapes and naturally stunning scenery, along with numerous cultural relics and historic sites. Ancient scholars once praised its “Snowy Mood of Langshan, Morning Glow over Dongjia, Murmuring Stream at Bailai, Spring Clouds over Seven Buddhas, Sunset at Santai, Fishing Lanterns at Xiapu, Chengyun Waterfall, Moonlit Hill Path, West Lake Moonlight, and Emerald Bells,” collectively known as the “Ten Scenic Spots of Hutou.” The remaining relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties are scattered across the area—so numerous and so well-preserved that they are truly rare. These include the provincial-level cultural heritage site Xianliang Ancestral Hall, and county-level heritage sites such as Chengyun Cave and the former residence of Li Guangdi, known as “Xinyay.” Major temples in the area include Qingxi Palace, Taishan Rock, Guan Di Temple, and Hou Shan Temple. In May 1999, it was designated as a Provincial Historical and Cultural Town by the provincial government. With its rich natural and cultural landscapes, Hutou has become a popular tourist destination in southern Fujian.
