Yuhu Shrine

Yuhu Shrine is a cultural relic protection unit of Anxi County.

Located on Chixuelun in Shimen Village, Gandei Town, the shrine enshrines Wu Tao, a renowned healer of the Minnan region during the Northern Song Dynasty. Behind the shrine, verdant mountains stretch upward with majestic momentum, while opposite stands a round-shaped hill called “Pearl Hill,” forming a geomantic feature known as “a centipede spitting out a pearl.” Originally built in the Song Dynasty, the shrine faces south with a gable-and-hip roof, featuring a three-bay width and depth. Remnants from the Song Dynasty, such as column bases, are still preserved. A plaque inscribed with “Ancient Site of the Immortal” hangs inside the shrine, reproduced during renovations. An ancient couplet reads: “Protecting the homeland, the great way shines gloriously upon the ancestral temple; Nurturing the people and all things, the emperor’s grace reaches the ninth heaven.” The statue of the deity Wu Zhenren enshrined here is uniquely local, adorned with golden flowers, wearing a wind cape, sporting five long whiskers, and having a ruddy complexion. On June 30, 2003, it was designated as a sixth batch county-level cultural relic protection unit by the Anxi County People's Government.
