Anxi Alsophila Garden

The Alsophila Garden is a beautiful and ancient scenic area surrounded by lush green mountains and clear waters, with serene and picturesque valleys. Its most distinctive feature is the vast expanse of Alsophila trees. These trees date back three hundred million years and are among China’s eight Class I key protected plant species. Alsophila was a primary food source for ancient herbivorous dinosaurs and is also a rare “living fossil” for studying paleontology, ancient geography, and ancient climate.

Strolling through the tranquil valley, you can almost hear the clear spring water babbling around you. Mountain spring water gushes from crevices in the rocks. Using a blade of reed, you can scoop up a drink of the pure spring water and taste its natural clarity. Alternatively, you can gather with a few friends in the quiet valley, boil some spring water, brew a pot of Tieguanyin tea, and enjoy the fragrant aroma while chatting and laughing merrily.

The Alsophila trees date back three hundred million years and are among China’s eight Class I key protected plant species. They were a primary food source for ancient herbivorous dinosaurs and are a rare “living fossil” for the study of paleontology, ancient geography, and ancient climate. There are currently more than ten Alsophila trees in the Alsophila Valley, growing in a ribbon-like distribution within the quiet valley. The plants generally reach a height of 2 meters, with the tallest growing up to 6–7 meters. The tallest Alsophila tree in China currently measures only 8.3 meters.
