A Realm of Tranquil Wonder

“A Realm of Tranquil Wonder” in Huxi Town, Anxi, is made up of three distinctive ancient Minnan-style houses. Constructed primarily from bluestone, red bricks, fir wood, and black tiles, the buildings retain the architectural style of late Qing Dynasty Minnan and have remained well-preserved for over a century. The story of their builder, Lin Peiyan, and his family continues to be widely told.

This unique cluster of ancient houses is located in Xianjing Village, Huxi Town. The main structures consist of three Minnan-style ancestral homes: Yuhui Residence, Yuxi Residence, and Yuhuan Residence. According to accounts, these three houses were built in 1876 by Lin Peiyan, a renowned overseas Chinese from Huxi, and are typical examples of the classic Minnan “imperial hall” architectural style. Having stood for over a hundred years, the houses bear the marks of time, exuding a sense of quiet solitude as well as extraordinary charm.
