Former Site of the CPC Anxi County Central Committee, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County, and the "8th Branch 4th Regiment" Headquarters

The former site of the CPC Anxi County Central Committee, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County, and the "8th Branch 4th Regiment" Headquarters is a cultural relic protection unit of Anxi County, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The former site of the CPC Anxi County Central Committee, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County, and the "8th Branch 4th Regiment" (i.e., the 4th Regiment of the 8th Detachment of the Minyuegan Border Region Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army) is located within Chongde Middle School in Changkeng Township, Anxi County, Quanzhou City.

On May 10, 1949, Anxi County was liberated. On the 14th, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County was established. The Kuomintang Fujian Provincial Government urgently mobilized troops from Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Longyan to attack Anxi County. On May 16, the 2nd Security Regiment of Fujian Province, led by Xiao Zhongguang, launched an assault on the county seat. To preserve revolutionary forces, the CPC Anxi County Central Committee’s party and government cadres, along with a training class, retreated to Changkeng under the cover of guerrilla forces. They set up their party, government, and military headquarters at Chongde Middle School, where they directed the 8th Branch 4th Regiment and guerrilla units from Anxi, Yongchun, Datian, Dehua, Zhangping, and Ningyang counties. They launched offensives and successively captured six county seats, making indelible contributions to the liberation of all of Quanzhou by the advancing People's Liberation Army.

The building housing the former site of the CPC Anxi County Central Committee, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County, and the "8th Branch 4th Regiment" Headquarters covers a construction area of 172 square meters, with a protected area of 400 square meters. The original site of Chongde Middle School was a two-courtyard, quadrangle-style structure with a gable-and-hip roof and a timber, brick, and stone construction. Today, the lower courtyard has been rebuilt as a dormitory building, while the upper courtyard and the east-west connecting corridors still remain.

The former site of the CPC Anxi County Central Committee, the People's Democratic Government of Anxi County, and the "8th Branch 4th Regiment" Headquarters was designated as one of the first batch of Anxi County-level Cultural Relic Protection Units by the Anxi County People's Government in October 1985. In November 1997, it was listed as one of the first Anxi County Patriotic Education Bases by the CPC Anxi County Committee and the Anxi County People's Government. In March 2011, it was designated as a Quanzhou Municipal Party History Education Base by the Quanzhou Municipal Party History Research Office. In November 2012, it was recognized as one of the third batch of Provincial Party History Education Bases by the Fujian Provincial Party History Research Office.
