Anxi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Anxi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Anxi County, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Anxi Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located on Fengguan Mountain to the north of Fengcheng Town, Anxi County, Quanzhou City.

In 1933, under the leadership of the CPC Anxi Central County Committee, revolutionary struggles in the Anxi–Nan’an–Yongchun–Dehua region developed rapidly. On May 1, 1933, a gathering was held to commemorate the first anniversary of the guerrilla unit’s establishment, and it was reorganized into the Second Detachment of the Minnan Guerrilla Unit of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army (referred to as the Red Second Detachment). On August 24, the first district-level revolutionary committee—the Guanqiao District Revolutionary Committee—was established as a Soviet regime, and on August 25, the Anxi–Nan’an–Yongchun–Dehua Soviet Government was formed, causing panic among the Kuomintang authorities. On September 8, the KMT authorities in Anxi, through Wang Guanlan—a former deputy battalion commander of the militia and leader of a bandit gang who had infiltrated the Red Second Detachment—set a trap at Qingyunlou in Wenquan, Penglai. This led to the shocking “Qingyunlou Incident” that rocked Fujian. Twelve key leaders and cadres of the Anxi–Nan’an–Yongchun–Dehua Soviet government, Party, and military, including Chen Fengwu, Li Shi, Li Shiquan, Huang Futing, Fu Youzhi, Luo Zhaoquan, and Tang Guanghua, were arrested and killed.

To commemorate the 12 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the “Qingyunlou Incident,” in May 1958, the CPC Anxi County Committee and the County People’s Committee decided to build the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument on Fengguan Mountain, north of the county town where the martyrs fell. The monument was completed in November of the same year. Covering an area of 120 square meters with a protected area of 2,000 square meters, the front of the Fengguan Mountain Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument bears seven large characters in recessed regular script reading “Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument.” On its left and right sides are inscriptions by Zhu De and Deng Zihui: “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs” and “Immortal Fame, Everlasting Heroism,” respectively. The back of the monument describes the heroic deeds of the 12 martyrs.

In October 1985, the Fengguan Mountain Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument was listed by the Anxi County People’s Government as one of the first batch of Anxi County-level Cultural Relic Protection Units. In March 1996, it was designated by the CPC Quanzhou Municipal Committee and the Quanzhou Municipal People’s Government as one of the first batch of Quanzhou Patriotic Education Bases.
