Nangang Pagoda

Nangang Pagoda is situated 20 kilometers southwest of Wu’an City and 300 meters west of Nangang Village. It faces east and is an octagonal, three-tiered, pavilion-style brick pagoda with a corridor-style interior, standing about 22 meters high. It consists of three parts: the underground chamber, the main body, and the finial. The underground chamber is octagonal with a domed ceiling and is 3 meters high. The main body has three levels; the base level is 2.4 meters wide on each side, with doors on the east and west sides. The upper part of the pagoda features wooden-style brackets and carved brick lotus petals. The second and third tiers are similar in structure to the first, but the second tier has windows only on the north and south sides, while the third tier has doors and blind windows arranged alternately on each side. The finial is composed of two tiers of carved brick lotus petals and a precious bead. The pagoda is exquisitely and delicately constructed. Research indicates that it was built during the Song Dynasty. To the east of the pagoda stands a stele from the Kangxi era commemorating the renovation of the Heavenly King Hall. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

It has 2,400 hectares of arable land and covers a total area of 68 square kilometers, featuring a complete transportation and communication infrastructure. The area hosts eight provincial- or ministerial-level enterprises, including the Metallurgical Ministry’s Factory 2672, the Wan Nian Coal Mine of the Fengfeng Mining Bureau, and the Cishan Locomotive Depot of the Beijing Railway Bureau, giving it strong economic power.
