Wang Shun Manor
Wang Shun Manor is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.
Wang Shun Manor
Wang Shun Manor is located in Nanwenzhang Village, Boyan Town, Wu'an City. Built between 1932 and 1935, it covers a built-up area of over 2,780 square meters, comprising six courtyards and more than 80 buildings including both multi-story and single-story structures. A wide east-west road, 3.83 meters in width, runs through the middle. The main buildings are located on the north side of the road, facing south. There are four courtyards, all featuring brick, stone, and wooden single-story structures that served as the living quarters for Wang Shun and his children. These buildings showcase the finest examples of the manor’s architectural and carving artistry. The two courtyards to the south of the road were used as housing for servants, farm laborers, guards, as well as for mills and animal stables. Except for three rooms in the north building which are multi-story, the rest are all single-story, brick-and-wood vernacular buildings. The entire manor is relatively well-preserved, with an orderly layout, refined materials, and high-quality construction. Each brick was polished and meticulously crafted. Various carvings in stone, brick, and wood, along with colorful paintings, demonstrate exquisite craftsmanship. Additionally, to the south of the village lies a Wang family orchard covering nearly 10,000 square meters, where facilities such as wells still remain. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.
Wang Shun, also known as Jiantang (1867–1937), worked as a farmer in the first half of his life before making his fortune through business ventures outside. Upon returning home, he purchased land and built this typical southern Hebei manor, representing the local architectural style and folk culture.
Nanwenzhang Village: Located 7 kilometers south of Wu'an City and 1.5 kilometers north of the Boyan Town government, Nanwenzhang Village has a population of 834, with 243 households and 1,300 mu of arable land, 90% of which is irrigated. The village has no industries or economic income. It features the provincial-level Wang Shun Manor and a Guan Yu Temple, as well as six century-old catalpa trees. With favorable geographical conditions, convenient transportation, and fertile land, the village's economy is primarily agricultural. About 40% of the villagers focus on vegetable farming and work outside during their spare time. Under these circumstances, the village plans to develop its economy by leveraging Wang Shun Manor as a pillar and vegetable cultivation as a supporting sector.
