Wuan Thousand Buddha Caves

The Wuan Thousand Buddha Caves are a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Thousand Buddha Caves are situated on Taoyuan Mountain in Wuan City, carved from a natural limestone cave. The cave entrance faces west, fronting the Taoyuan River. The stone is relatively soft, with many cracks and stalactites on the walls. A total of 112 niches are carved into the northern and southern walls, containing 164 Buddha statues, all donated and carved by local worshippers. The sides of the niches bear inscriptions of the donors' villages and names. A niche in the middle section of the southern wall contains an inscription from the third year of the Daguan era (1108 AD) during the reign of Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty, confirming the cave's construction period. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.
