Jitou Stone Archway Group

The Jitou Stone Archway Group is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Jitou Stone Archway Group

Era: Qing Dynasty

Location: Jitou Village, Tangkou Township, Pingnan County

Introduction: Commonly known as Shifangcha, this group includes 10 archways commemorating chaste women, standing along an ancient path. The earliest was built in the 57th year of the Qianlong reign (1792), and the latest in the 14th year of the Guangxu reign (1888). There are two main types: one-bay, two-pillar, two-story structures and three-bay, four-pillar, three-story structures, all approximately 6 meters in height and ranging from 3.1 to 4.9 meters in width. Above the archway inscriptions is a vertical plaque inscribed with “Imperial Edict,” while the central plaque features large characters such as “Glorious Virtue Shines Bright.” Below are inscriptions such as “Commended by the Qing Court.”

Protected Area: An area extending 20 meters outward from the perimeter of the archway group.

In 2009, the Jitou Stone Archway Group was designated as part of the seventh batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Heritage Sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
