Houlong Longjin Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Houlong Longjin Bridge

Also known as Yusu Bridge or Ximei Bridge, it is located at the end of a stream in Houlong Village, Pingshan Township, Pingnan County. The bridge runs east-west, was initially built in the early Qing Dynasty, and was funded by director Zhang Fang and others in the 27th year of the Daoguang reign (1847). It is 33.5 meters long, 4.5 meters wide, has a single span of 23 meters, and stands 12 meters above the water surface. The bridge abutments are built with block stones, the deck is laid with wooden planks covered by pebbles, and a shrine facing south enshrines the Five Manifestations Emperor. The bridge house has 13 bays and 56 columns, featuring a nine-rafter through-tenon frame and a hanging gable roof. On the eastern side of the bridge, there is a stele and a Temple to the Goddess.

The Longxi Stream meanders beneath the bridge, with tree-lined banks on both sides creating a tranquil environment. A couplet in the middle of the bridge reads: “The water’s hues and mountain’s glow do not disappoint such comings and goings; the tracks of carts and horses follow the hustle of all who pass.” Zhang Zongming, a selected scholar from the Guangxu reign, wrote the poem “Bridge Locking the Dragon Ferry” among his Eight Scenic Spots of Houlong: “My hometown is surrounded by mountains, where the Jade Screen and Writing Brush peaks connect; the dragon treads this land so tightly one can hardly tell where the water flows. In the 27th year of Daoguang, a bridge was built at the riverbank mouth, named Dragon Ferry. Another poem in its praise reads: “Lush trees lock a broken rainbow, the winding stream breathes no wind; do people know the joy of the bridge’s edge? All lies in fish emerging and diving.”

Listed as a ninth batch provincial-level cultural heritage site in 2018.
