Beidou Mountain Scenic Area, also known as Qixingyan (Seven Star Caves) Scenic Area, is a natural landscape characterized by danxia landforms. It is known for its majestic and steep terrain, compactly arranged scenic spots, and pristine forests. The area gets its name from seven closely arranged stone peaks that resemble the Big Dipper star formation. Each peak and rock formation offers a unique view as you move around, creating its own distinct scene, including over a hundred attractions such as the “Awakening Lion of the East,” “Loyal Heart Rock,” “Red Dot Frog,” “Ancient Ape Gazing at the Moon,” “Fairy Asking the Heavens,” “Maitreya’s Blessing,” “Stone Cliff Sheep Path,” “One-Line Sky,” and more. The Beidou Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southern part of Songxi Town, covering an area of approximately 5 square kilometers. Within the area, the seven rock peaks align with the Big Dipper in the sky, featuring various forms of danxia landforms and over a hundred scenic spots. The area is divided into three main scenic sections: the Lion King Peak Section, the Crescent Lake Section, and the Songxi River Section.

After visiting, Professor Huang Jin, a renowned national expert on danxia landforms and professor at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, was left in awe and inscribed the words “Qixingyan Scenic Splendor.” Wen Tianxiang, the Southern Song Dynasty’s prime minister and national hero, once climbed this mountain and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Though the mountain is high, it does not hinder one’s view of the world; though the land is small, it can still hold the heart of a prime minister.” Due to the scenic area’s excellent transportation and location, and its proximity to national-level scenic spots such as Guanzhai Mountain in Liancheng, Taoyuan Cave–Stone Forest in Yong’an, the national historical and cultural city of Changting, the Ninghua National Geopark known as the “Hakka Ancestral Land,”

as well as Swan Cave and Ruijin, the Red Capital, the area can be integrated into a golden tourism route featuring “red danxia mountains, emerald waters, karst caves, hot springs, and Hakka culture,” offering vast potential for development.
