Qingliu Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

The Qingliu Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located on the southern side of Fengxiang Mountain (West Mountain) Park in Longjin Town, Qingliu County, behind the county civil affairs building.

During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, Qingliu was an important part of the Central Soviet Area, making indelible and significant contributions to the revolutionary struggle and paying a tremendous sacrifice. According to incomplete statistics, throughout the sweeping Agrarian Revolutionary struggle, over 27,000 people from the entire county participated in the revolutionary cause, more than 6,000 outstanding sons and daughters joined the Red Army, and over 4,000 sacrificed their lives or went missing during the struggle. However, only slightly over 200 are officially registered as martyrs—the vast majority became unsung heroes. The people of Qingliu made great contributions and sacrifices for the founding of New China. In order to honor these martyrs, inherit the revolutionary tradition, and promote patriotism and revolutionary education, the Qingliu County People's Government built the martyrs' cemetery in 1951. The initial structures included only a memorial monument and a Glorious Pavilion. In March 1971, the cemetery was expanded to include the tombs of Martyr Wang Qiqing and Martyr Zhang Jiang, and the memorial monument was renovated.

In January 2001, the CPC Qingliu County Committee and Qingliu County People's Government renovated the Fengxiang Mountain Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery and the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument, writing new inscriptions and compiling a list of 259 martyrs. Some of the martyrs' tombs in the cemetery were also restored at that time.

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is also known as West Mountain Park or Fengxiang Mountain Park. It consists of four parts: the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument, the Martyrs' Cemetery, the Glorious Pavilion, and the natural scenic area, covering an area of approximately 30,000 square meters, of which the Martyrs' Cemetery itself occupies about 2,000 square meters. The Glorious Pavilion is a monument pavilion located to the left of the Martyrs' Monument. It has a triangular shape, supported underneath by three cylindrical pillars arranged in a tripod formation, surrounded by railings, and topped with a dome featuring upturned eaves and traditional brackets, all under red glazed tiles. On the front two pillars of the pavilion is inscribed a couplet written in Mao Zedong’s own hand: “Carry forward the revolutionary tradition and strive for greater glory.”
