Shucao Red Army Well

The Shucao Red Army Well is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Red Army Well is located in Shegongtang Natural Village, Shucao Village, LinShe Township, Qingliu County.

On January 14, 1930, when Mao Zedong led the 2nd Column of the Red 4th Army to LinShe for the first time, this ancient well — which had flowed with clear, sweet water for nearly a thousand years — suddenly gushed out bright red water, and this continued for a full seven days before subsiding. When news spread, the mountain village was in an uproar. People from nearby villages flocked in droves, worshipping in awe, all astonished by the special bond between this ancient well and the Red Army. Hence, the well became known as the Red Army Well.

The Red Army Well is a circular stone-built ancient well, approximately 1.5 meters in diameter and less than 2 meters deep. Its exact construction date is unknown. According to local residents, the well has existed since the founding of the village. It remains well-preserved to this day.

In November 2009, the Red Army Well was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
