Shucao Red Army Bridge

The Shucao Red Army Bridge is a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage site and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Red Army Bridge is located at the border between Beiwu Natural Village and Zizhuping Natural Village in Shucao Village, LinShe Township, Qingliu County.

In the winter of 1931, while returning to their base from the direction of Guiding after completing a mission, a unit of the 1st Regiment of the 7th Independent Division of the Red Army stationed in LinShe was ambushed by a militia group at this bridge. The sudden attack led to fierce fighting during which over ten Red Army officers and soldiers were killed on the stony bridge, sacrificing heroically. To commemorate these martyrs, local villagers named the bridge “Red Army Bridge.”

The Red Army Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge originally built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is 15 meters long, 4 meters wide, and about 3.4 meters above the water surface. Before liberation, this was the only route from Qingliu to Guiding (now Mingxi County) and the direction of Sanyuan. Less than 1 kilometer ahead at the gap lies Wutong’ao, a transportation hub that connected four counties. From there, official roads led to eight directions: LinShe in Qingliu, Ansha in Yong’an, Chengguan in Guiding, Gaiyang, and Quanshang in Ninghua.

The Red Army Bridge was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Heritage site by the People’s Government of Fujian Province in November 2009.
