Mao Zedong's Former Residence — Yiyantang is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province, a classic red tourism attraction, and a national defense education base.

Mao Zedong's Former Residence — Yiyantang is located in Tangkui Natural Village, Lianshe Village, Linshe Township, Qingliu County, just 100 meters from Linshe School.

In January 1930, shortly after the successful convening of the Gutian Conference, in order to thwart the Kuomintang army’s second “Three Provinces Joint Campaign” aimed at encircling the Western Fujian Soviet Area, Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the Fourth Red Army from Gutian in Western Fujian, advancing separately back to southern Jiangxi and campaigning across Jiangxi. Among them, Mao Zedong led the Second Column of the Fourth Red Army, entering Qingliu from Gutian in Liancheng on January 14. On January 15, they passed through Shawu, Jiaokeng, Yupeng, Qinxī, Wulu Keng, Tongkeng, Xiaochi, and Wenjiashan before arriving in Linshe, where they stayed overnight. During this march, Mao Zedong composed the famous poem “Ode to the Plum Blossom” — “Qingming, Qingliu, and Guixiang: the roads are steep, the forests deep, the moss slippery. Where to go today? Straight to the foot of Mount Wuyi. Foot of the mountain, foot of the mountain — the wind unfurls the red flags like a painting.”

Later, during mid-to-late June 1931, the 11th Division of the Fourth Red Army under Shi’e Zeng and Ruiqing Luo, in late July 1933 the Eastern Army of the Red Army under Peng Dehuai and Daiyuan Teng as well as the 7th Independent Division of the Fujian Military District, and other units operating in this area also set up their command posts here. To this day, slogans written by the 1st Regiment of the Red 7th Division, the Red 12th Regiment, and others can still be found.

Mao Zedong's Former Residence — Yiyantang was built in the third year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1878), and is a typical five-phoenix tower-style residential building commonly seen among the Hakka people of Western Fujian. It has two courtyards with three halls, along with side wings on the left and right, 24 main rooms, 20 rooms in three rows of wing buildings, covering an area of 1,386 square meters. Mao Zedong stayed in the left wing room of the hall in the third courtyard, while the right wing room accommodated the troops. The rooms on both sides of the middle hall in the second courtyard housed the radio station and some personnel, and the guard company was stationed on both sides of the entrance hall.

Mao Zedong's Former Residence — Yiyantang was designated as a Qingliu County Cultural Relic Protection Unit by the Qingliu County People’s Government in October 1983, recognized as a Sanming City Patriotic Education Base by the Sanming Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Sanming Municipal People’s Government in December 1995, included in the “2005–2010 Fujian Province Red Tourism Development Plan Outline” in 2005, proclaimed a Fujian Province National Defense Education Base by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government in November 2007, designated as a Fujian Province Cultural Relic Protection Unit by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government in November 2009, and announced as a Fujian Province Party History Education Base by the Party History Research Office of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC in September 2010.

Linshe Town: Located in the northeastern part of Qingliu County, Linshe Township is known as the “northern gateway” of Qingliu.
