Former Residence of Luo Binghui

The former residence of Luo Binghui is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province and a classic red tourism attraction.

The former residence of Luo Binghui and the Luo Family Ancestral Hall are located in Litian Village, Litian Township, Qingliu County.

Between June 1930 and January 1931, Luo Binghui led the Red 12th Army on multiple occasions to operate in the Litian, Tiankou, and Changxiao areas of Qingliu. He successively helped establish Soviet governments in local townships including Hekeng, Xiexie, Changxiao, Jiangfang, Huangshikeng, as well as the Litian District Soviet Government. During this period, he stayed at the Litian Luo Family Ancestral Hall on multiple occasions, where he led efforts in combating the enemy and assisted with local Party-building, government-establishment, and land redistribution. In February 1931, after the Red Army’s victory in the first counter-“encirclement and suppression” campaign, Luo Binghui once again led his troops into the southwestern part of Ninghua, and then divided his forces to directly enter Qingliu and Guiding. While in Qingliu, he continued to reside in the Luo Family Ancestral Hall.

The former residence of Luo Binghui and the Luo Family Ancestral Hall were originally built during the late Qing Dynasty. It is a single-courtyard brick-and-wood structure consisting of an upper and lower hall, spanning three bays in width and six pillars in depth, covering an area of 399.64 square meters. The site is relatively well-preserved.

The former residence of Luo Binghui was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province by the People’s Government of Fujian Province in November 2009.

Luo Binghui, born in 1897 into a poor Han family in Yiliang, Yunnan, lived a life of hardship from childhood. In 1915, he enlisted in the Yunnan Army. Known for his bravery in battle, he rose from soldier to battalion commander and participated in the National Protection War against Yuan Shikai, the Eastern Expedition, and the Northern Expedition. In July 1929, he secretly joined the Chinese Communist Party, and in November of the same year, he led a mutiny of soldiers from the Jingwei Battalion in Ji’an, Jiangxi, joining the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. He served successively as regimental commander, brigade commander, commander of the Second Column of the Sixth Army, and commander of the 12th and 22nd Armies. Litian Township is located in the southwestern part of Qingliu County, bordering Changxiao Town to the east within the county, the Changting County to the southwest, Ninghua County to the northwest, and Tianyuan Township to the northeast.
