Zhu De's Former Residence & Yuzhang Gong Temple is located in Litian Village, Litian Township, Qingliu County.
In January 1930, shortly after the successful convening of the Gutian Conference, in order to break the Nationalist army’s second “Three Provinces Joint Campaign” against the Western Fujian Soviet Area, Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the Red Fourth Army from Gutian in Western Fujian, taking separate routes through Liancheng, Qingliu, Guiding, and Ninghua counties. Among them, on January 9, Zhu De led the 1st, 3rd, and 4th columns of the Red Fourth Army from Beituan in Liancheng into Lijialiao in Qingliu. After crossing Aofeng Mountain, they passed through Zhangxia, Liukeng, Jiangfang, Changxiao, and other areas before arriving in Litian, where they camped for the night in Litian Village. Zhu De stayed at Yuzhang Gong Temple that night. That evening, Zhu De also presided over a military meeting in the temple to study and formulate a surprise attack plan targeting the Guomengshan defenders who were attempting to use the terrain to block the Red Army’s advance. Early the next morning, under the cover of darkness, Zhu De directed the Red Army soldiers to launch a fierce assault on the Guomengshan defenders, commanded by Ma Hongxing, according to the prearranged plan. After several hours of intense fighting, the Red Army achieved victory, annihilating more than 600 enemy troops and capturing a large quantity of weapons and ammunition. After the battle, the Red Army immediately advanced toward Ninghua and successfully captured the Ninghua county seat in one swift move.
Zhu De's Former Residence & Yuzhang Gong Temple was originally built during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. It was expanded during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and subsequently renamed Yuzhang Gong Temple. Historically, it has experienced multiple periods of rise and decline, being destroyed and rebuilt several times. Also, due to its location in a mountain hollow, it is commonly known as Aotou Temple. It is currently well-preserved.
