The Pingshan Township of Datian County is the highest-altitude township in Sanming City. “High elevation, frequent fog, sweet water, and fragrant tea” are the defining features of Pingshan. According to assessments by tea experts at the provincial level and above, the teas from Pingshan are characterized by their delicate yet long-lasting aroma, mellow and fresh taste, clear honey-green liquor, and thick, soft, and bright tea leaves. This is mainly due to the cool high-mountain climate, with year-round fog, over 100 days of cloud cover annually, significant diurnal temperature variation, suitable sunlight, and a healthy ecological environment. Within a radius of over 20 square kilometers, there is no industrial pollution, making the natural conditions exceptionally favorable for producing high-quality high-mountain tea.

The township primarily grows premium tea varieties such as Taiwan Jin Xuan, Tieguanyin, Jin Guanyin, and Ruanzhi Oolong. It currently has 11,760 acres of tea plantations and nearly 100 tea processing factories. The tea products have been certified as “Pollution-Free Products” by the Provincial Department of Agriculture and as “Green Food” by the Green Food Development Center. The products have won multiple awards in international and domestic competitions. The township has also launched the province’s first township-level tea website and the city’s first eco-tea street, effectively expanding the market reach of Pingshan’s ecological teas. It has been designated by the county party committee and county government as the core area for developing 100,000 acres of high-quality high-mountain tea in Datian County.
