Jiyang Village

Jiyang Township is located in the southeastern part of Datian County and is a national-level ecological township. Surrounded by mountains, shrouded in mist, with lively streams and a mild climate, it boasts ancient relics scattered across the landscape. The natural scenery and cultural attractions complement each other, creating a unique charm. Since the establishment of the ancestral home by the Tu family during the Zhiping era of the Song Dynasty (1064–1067 AD), this thousand-year-old town of Jiyang has witnessed both prosperity and change, accumulating profound historical and cultural heritage. To this day, it still preserves, relatively intact, ancient fortresses and stockades, old streets and bridges, ancient palaces, temples and ancestral halls, traditional residential complexes, and distinctive local folk customs.

Events such as the annual “Praying for Incense and a Bountiful Harvest” in the first lunar month to pray for favorable weather and peace for the nation and its people, as well as temple fairs celebrating the birthdays of three revered deities—Huanggong Ancestral Master, Zhenzong Ancestral Master, and Sandai Ancestral Master—held on the 19th day of the 7th lunar month, the 24th day of the 11th lunar month, and the 4th day of the 12th lunar month respectively, are accompanied by performances such as lantern displays, Nanyin music, lion dances, puppet shows, Gaojia opera, flower drum, and yangko dance. These preserve the authentic mountain-town atmosphere and rich sense of daily life, keeping the living heritage of the people of Jiyang intact.

The emphasis on greening in the developing town of Jiyang is immediately evident. Nearly 20,000 precious trees such as camphor, crape myrtle, maple, osmanthus, and red-leaf photinia have been planted along the main and branch village roads, and a 2.1-kilometer-long feature stone flower bed has been constructed. In collaboration with the photography associations of Sanming City and Quanzhou City, a photography competition themed “Rapeseed Flowers in Bloom · Lively Jiyang” has been held, attracting a large number of tourists to the village for photography. The first glass viewing platform in Sanming has also been completed.
