On August 22, Zhu De led over 3,000 troops from the 2nd and 3rd Columns of the Red 4th Army into Pingshan Township. Upon hearing that the Red Army was entering Pingshan, most local residents took shelter in earthen fortresses. Shops along the small village street were shuttered, and the streets were deserted. The Red Army had no choice but to first open the shops, weigh out the items needed for meals, write notes, place silver dollars in jars, affix seals on the outside, and then close the shop doors upon leaving. The Guo Shoucheng residential building covers an area of 520 square meters and features a single-courtyard, two-hall layout constructed with earth and timber. It faces south and sits to the north. Although some damage has occurred due to age and weather erosion, the overall structure remains well-preserved.
