Former Site of the Red Army Slogans Rope Group Hall

The former site of the Red Army slogans Rope Group Hall is located at No. 39, Laocuo Village, Shipai Town, Datian County.

On August 21, 1929, Zhu De led over 3,000 troops from the 2nd and 3rd Columns of the Red 4th Army, entering Yutian Village on the outskirts of Datian from Wuling in Datian. They organized an assault on three watchtowers atop the city’s high points — Xiashan, Baiyan Mountain, and Maluling. Given the prevailing hot weather and outbreak of disease at the time, the Red Army decided to abandon the assault on the city. That afternoon, the troops turned back and set up camp in Laojie and Laocuo Ping areas of Shipai. Zhu De stayed at Xinfu Hall in Laocuo Ping, and telephone lines from the army headquarters were quickly extended to all campsites. Both Xinfu Hall, where Zhu De had stayed, and nearby civilian houses were covered with Red Army slogans written by soldiers. However, in the 1990s, due to urban development, most of the residential buildings were demolished, leaving only Rope Group Hall in Laocuo Village with surviving Red Army slogans.

The Shengzu Hall faces south and has a construction area of 400 square meters. It is built with earth and wood, bordered by paddy fields on the southeast side and residential houses on the north and south sides. Approximately 300 meters to the southwest is the Dadian entrance of the Quanzhou–Sanming Expressway. Its current state of preservation is fair.

Shipai Town: Shipai Town is located in the southern part of Datian County’s urban area, adjacent to the county seat. The town government is situated 6 kilometers from the urban center. It borders Pingshan Township and Junxi Town to the east, Wuling Township and Shangjing Town to the west, Xieyang Township and Wushan Township to the south, and Taihua Town to the north. Provincial highways 305 and 306, as well as the Quanzhou–Sanming Expressway, run through the area. To the east lies Dehua, to the west are Yong’an and Sanming, and to the southeast is the “Golden Triangle” of Southern Fujian.
