Zhu De’s Former Residence in Datian

Zhu De’s Former Residence in Datian is a classic red tourism attraction.

Zhu De’s former residence is located on the right side of No. 73 in Xiakoukou Village, Shangjing Town, Datian County.

When Zhu De led the 2nd and 3rd columns of the Red 4th Army and passed through Xiakoukou Village in Shangjing Town, which borders Zhangping County, he made a camp here. When the Red Army passed through Xiakoukou Village, locals had all fled to the mountains. It was only after they noticed the Red Army's strict discipline that residents gradually returned to the village. At that time, the Red Army wrote many slogans in the village. Tonglin Ancestral Hall, a ancestral home of the villagers, also had many slogans written on its walls. After the Red Army left, villagers, fearing retaliation from the Kuomintang army, scraped off some of the more prominent slogans. The Tonglin Ancestral Hall is the ancestral shrine of the Liu family, covering a construction area of 846 square meters with a single-courtyard, two-hall earthen-and-timber structure. In 2009, a hand-drawn sketch by Zhu De was lost due to improper renovation.
