Yusha Bridge

Yusha Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The provincial-level cultural relic protection site Yusha Bridge is one of the four most well-preserved ancient covered bridges in Liancheng County. It is located beside the water exit forest at the end of Mawu Village and was originally built in the 23rd year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1684), boasting a history of 331 years. Legend has it that the bridge was named Yusha (Jade Sand) because the sand and stones at the bottom of the Huaxi River sparkled like jade.

This bridge has a history of over 300 years and is a type of covered bridge known as a "wind and rain bridge," featuring a roofed shelter that allows pedestrians to take shelter from wind and rain. The bridge deck is paved with cobblestones of uniform size, flanked by railings on both sides, with small pavilions at both ends and in the middle. The plaque at the head of the bridge reads “Langlang Shangxing” (Soaring Ahead), the one at the tail reads “Huohuo Huiying” (Lively Reflection), and the central plaque reads “Yusha Bridge.”

The bridge foundation consists of hydrostone turtle-shaped piers, with wooden beams forming an arch-like structure supporting the bridge body. Towering ancient trees of varying heights line both ends of the bridge, creating an exquisitely beautiful and tranquil scenery.

Approaching Yusha Bridge, it lies heavily across the Huaxi River. As time flows away like the waters of the river, carrying memories with it, only the bridge truly showcases the wisdom of its builders. I’ve seen many ancient bridges, often worn and weary—but few retain the enduring charm and grace of Yusha Bridge.
