From now until March 31 during "Hong Kong Art Month," besides the well-known galleries and exhibition venues, travelers might want to explore other places off the beaten path to discover the unique blend of contemporary and street art. Old factory buildings outside the core commercial areas, street corners, and shop gates all hold unexpected surprises for visitors.

For an urban art adventure, start with Central and Sheung Wan, the trend hubs where you can admire some of Hong Kong’s most striking street art. The "HKwalls Street Art Festival" was previously held here, where top local and international street artists used shopfronts and building exteriors as their canvases, creating vivid and eye-catching murals. Stroll through the streets and alleys of SoHo to uncover hidden graffiti art that is either jaw-dropping, amusing, or incredibly valuable—and learn the untold stories behind them.

This year’s "HKwalls Street Art Festival" will move to Wong Chuk Hang in the emerging art district of the South Side of Hong Kong Island, running for nine days from March 18 to 26. Street artists will gather to create works that add even more vibrancy to the area. Beneath the dull gray factory building facades lie the hidden excitement and uniqueness of Wong Chuk Hang. Among the numerous galleries, design, and fashion studios, you’ll find stylish restaurants, cafes, bars, and boutique hotels that attract non-mainstream creators from all over the world.

Transportation to Wong Chuk Hang has become more convenient since the opening of the MTR South Island Line in 2016. It takes less than six minutes to travel from Admiralty to Wong Chuk Hang, further solidifying Wong Chuk Hang’s status as an art district on the South Side of Hong Kong Island.
