Liancheng County Library

Liancheng County Library was established in January 1985. Its new building was completed in 1987 and is located at No. 14, Beida Street, Liancheng County. The library building covers a construction area of 1,761 square meters, with a total collection of 68,000 books. It has a staff of 7 people, including 4 with intermediate titles, 2 with junior titles, and 1 clerk. It is currently a second-class library.

The library houses an lending room, a periodical reading room, a children’s reading room, an acquisition and cataloging room, a science and technology materials room, a local literature room, an office, and a book storage area. It provides 150 seating spaces in the periodical reading room and 60 in the children’s reading room. The total length of bookshelves is 2,002 meters. Books are indexed according to the fourth edition of the Chinese Library Classification, and cataloged following the General Rules for Bibliographic Description. There are two sets of classified catalogs, two sets of title catalogs, one set of periodical title catalogs, and two volumes of the “Liancheng Local Materials Directory Index” have been compiled.

Our library adopts open-shelf and semi-open-shelf services for book and periodical lending. It is open 56 hours per week, warmly serves readers, offers services such as appointment borrowing, home delivery, and reader consultations. On average, over 700 library cards are issued per year, with an annual total of 80,000 visitors, 60,000 books lent out annually, and 500 new book titles added each year. We consistently hold Library Service Week events, including reader book review competitions, Red Land reading speech contests, special book exhibitions on farming success tips, and children’s garden activities. A “Military-Civilian Joint Mobile Book Box” has been set up to conduct book lending activities with local military units, and books are also actively delivered to township cultural centers. Ten grassroots service points have been established, and basic training courses on library knowledge are offered to managers of township cultural station libraries.

Our library strives to develop local literature resources, having collected 522 volumes of Liancheng party history, cultural and historical materials, and works by authors from Liancheng, as well as 525 volumes of 74 genealogies from 38 surnames in Liancheng.

Our library organizes staff to participate in various knowledge training sessions and encourages employees to write papers. To date, 12 papers have been published at the national, provincial, and municipal levels.

Our library has been recognized as an “Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization” by the county since 1990, as an “Advanced Unit in the Construction of Both Material and Spiritual Civilization” in 1991, and has been awarded the title of “Civilized Unit” by the county Party committee and government since 1993.

Lianfeng Town: Lianfeng Town was established during the Song Dynasty’s Yuanyu era (1098–1101 AD) and was called Lianfeng Fort. In the third year of the Shaoxing era (1133 AD) when the county was founded, it was renamed Chengli and governed four areas: Zhushou, Zhuogui, Ying’en, and Chongru. In the fifth year of Shaoxing, a 300-zhang earthen wall was built. In the sixth year, Magistrate Ma Zhouqing renamed Dongtianshi to Lianfeng Mountain. In the ninth year of the Ming Dynasty’s Zhengde era (1514 AD), a 770-zhang brick wall was constructed, featuring several large and small gates.
