The former site of Meiyutang Lianshi Paper Workshop is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The former site of Meiyutang Lianshi Paper Workshop is located in Fengtou Natural Village, Shangbao Village, Gutian Town, Liancheng County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Constructed in the 30th year of the Kangxi reign (1715), it made use of the region’s rich water resources, with paper workshops built along the mountain slopes and water-powered pestle mills situated by the streams. The site includes areas for raw material preparation and steaming, pestle mill rooms, and paper-making rooms, covering an area of about 1,120 square meters. Most of the workshop structures are built with stone. It was a complete papermaking facility that carried out the entire traditional process including bamboo stripping, yellow pulp steaming, natural bleaching, paper sheet forming, and drying—providing valuable physical evidence for the study of ancient papermaking technology in southern China.

Protected Area: East to the stream bank, south to vegetable fields, west to the drainage ditch, north to the paddy fields.

In 2018, the former site of Meiyutang Lianshi Paper Workshop was designated as part of the ninth batch of Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
