Baodi District Martyrs' Cemetery
The Baodi District Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.
The Baodi District Martyrs' Cemetery was established in 1988, covering a land area of 30,000 square meters with 2,000 square meters of memorial buildings. The overall layout of the cemetery follows a symmetrical central axis design. From north to south along the central axis stand four major memorial structures: the Baodi Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall building, an antique-style archway, the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, and the Martyrs' Tomb Area. The cemetery area is the burial site of 239 martyrs located at No. 71, Jinying Road, Baoping Street, Baodi District. Among them is one collective tomb that holds the remains of 146 martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Battle of Zhao Gezhuang in the War of Resistance against Japan. The tall and majestic Revolutionary Martyrs Monument symbolizes the noble spirit of the martyrs’ unyielding bravery, set off beautifully by the antique-style archway and the plaza greenery. The Baodi Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall within the exhibition building showcases the heroic struggles of martyrs from various periods in Baodi’s history.
Since opening to the public, the Baodi District Martyrs' Cemetery has consistently upheld the purpose of “honoring the martyrs and educating future generations.” It regularly organizes thematic educational activities, using modern display methods and comprehensive photographic and textual materials to fully realize its role as a patriotic education base. A series of Qingming Festival-themed educational events have been held here, including “Honoring Revolutionary Martyrs and Promoting National Spirit,” “Honoring Revolutionary Martyrs and Striving to Be Civilized Students,” “Baodi District Youth Patriotic Education Essay Competition,” “Honoring Revolutionary Martyrs and Building Harmonious Military-Civilian Relations,” “Inheriting the Martyrs’ Will and Building a Beautiful Homeland,” and “Honoring the Martyrs and Cleaning Our Homeland.” These events have attracted over 550,000 visitors and mourners from all walks of life.
The Baodi District Martyrs' Cemetery was recognized as a Tianjin Civil Affairs System “Civilized Window” unit four times—in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. In 1997, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
