Wushi Hall

The Lin Family Haiyun Ancestral Temple, also known as Wushi Hall, is the foremost ancestral temple in southern Fujian and a county-level cultural relics protection unit. Located in Houpubian Village, Jiuzhen Town, Zhangpu County, the temple faces south and features a layout of three courtyards, four wing rooms, two central courtyards, and a triple-span double-sloped suspended gable roof. Covering an area of over 1,500 square meters, its grand scale has earned it the popular name “Wushi Hall.” The temple’s hall name is “Shide Hall.” It was first built in the 13th year of the Zhengtong era of the Ming Dynasty (1447) (some sources claim it was built in the 6th year of the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty, i.e., 1346), and has undergone renovations in various dynasties, with the most recent major restoration taking place in 1973. The architectural design of the Haiyun Ancestral Temple represents a special honor granted only to ancestral temples of individuals who achieved the highest honors in the imperial examinations — the top three ranks. Such a distinction is unique in Zhangpu County and rare even in southern Fujian.
