Nanpu Ancient House

The Nanpu Ancient House in Nanpu Village, Nanpu Township, served as the former site of the headquarters of the 0 Zhangzhou Central County Committee.

On April 20, 1932, the First Front Army of the Central Red Army captured Zhangzhou. After listening to reports from comrades such as Deng Zihui (then elected as an executive committee member and Finance Commissioner of the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic), who was leading the establishment of a revolutionary 0 base in Zhangpu, Luo Ming, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee, and Wang Haiping, Executive Committee Member of the Provincial Soviet, Comrade Mao Zedong made the decision to consolidate and develop the rural revolutionary 0 base centered around Longxi Market, Xiaoshancheng, and Longling in Zhangpu, expand guerrilla warfare to the five counties of Nanjing, Pinghe, Zhangpu, Yunxiao, and Longxi, create small Red Army units, establish small Soviet areas, and telegraphed regarding decisions on the revolutionary struggle in southern Fujian. On April 22, during his report titled "On the Current Political Situation and the Second Action Issue" at a meeting of cadres at the rank of company commander and above in the First Front Army, he laid out the operational plans for establishing a new Soviet area centered on Longxi Market in Zhangpu and expanding into the five counties of Nanjing, Pinghe, Zhangpu, Longxi, and Yunxiao. On April 24, 1932, the 3rd Army of the First Front Army of the Central Red Army captured Zhangpu. In accordance with Chairman Mao Zedong’s decision to establish a Soviet area in southern Fujian, the Jinghepu Soviet Area centered on Zhangpu was established. It was initially planned to set up a special committee directly under the command of the Central Soviet Area, but it was later changed to the 0 Zhangzhou Central County Committee. The County Committee Secretary was Cai Xieming (also serving as the Commander-in-Chief of the 3rd Red Army), with committee members Zeng Zhi (also serving as Secretary-General), Wang Zhanchun (also serving as Political Commissar of the 3rd Red Regiment), and Feng Yifei (also serving as Commander of the 3rd Red Regiment). The headquarters were located in the Nanpu Ancient House in Nanpu Village, within the villages surrounding Longxi Market.

The former site of the 0 Zhangzhou Central County Committee headquarters, the Nanpu Ancient House, still retains wall inscriptions from the Central Red Army and those signed by the Guard Battalion of the Minnan Revolutionary Committee. The Nanpu Ancient House is a century-old earthen building covering an area of 500 square meters. It once served as the office of the Nanpu Commune and later as the office of the village committee. Due to years of neglect and lack of repairs, it has gradually fallen into disrepair.

Nanpu Village: Nanpu Village is located in the western part of Nanpu Township. To the east, it neighbors Longqiao Village across the Longxi River; to the west, it borders Qianli Ting (historically known as Dachi Mountain, elevation 761 meters); to the south, it is adjacent to Daping Village across the Daping Stream; and to the north, it is separated from Meilin Village by the Neikeng Stream within the village. Rural roads connect it to other villages within the township.

Administrative History

During the Republican era, it was part of Nanpu Bao under Longyuan Township in Zhangping County. In the early years of the People’s Republic of China, it was part of Nanpu Township in Chengxi District. In October 1957, it was placed under Zhangpu, initially belonging to Shiliu District.
