Hukangyan

Hukangyan in Wushe Village, Xiamei Town, is the site where martyr Wu Tingjian, a member of the Central Committee of the Jinghepu County Committee, Vice Chairman of the Jinghepu Border Area Soviet Government, and Secretary of the Zhangpu County Committee, died a heroic death on January 29, 1943.

Comrade Wu Tingjian was from Longling Village, Shiliu Town, Zhangpu County, and was born in 1893. In 1930, he carried out revolutionary activities in secret in Cheben and Xiaoshancheng, embraced revolutionary ideas, joined revolutionary organizations, and brought the spark of revolution back to his hometown of Longling, where he secretly established and developed peasant association organizations. In early 1932, when Deng Zihui led the local farmers near Xiaoshancheng in the struggle against the "aircraft donation" levy, he actively supported and participated with the masses of Longling. In April 1932, after the Red Army captured Zhangzhou, he led the peasants of Longling and Xiaoshancheng in overthrowing local tyrants, redistributing land, and establishing Soviet power, making significant contributions to the establishment of the Jinghepu revolutionary base centered on Xiaoshancheng. In February 1933, under the leadership of the Party, he actively organized and mobilized the people of the Soviet area to launch a vigorous land revolution movement, and established and strengthened grassroots Party organizations, peasant associations, and Red Guards organizations, which greatly boosted the revolutionary enthusiasm of the people in the base area. In the difficult years that followed, he led the people of the Soviet area in resisting multiple encirclement campaigns by the reactionary forces and opened up new revolutionary bases in Liangshan and Houjing. Wu Tingjian successively served as a member of the Central Committee of the Jinghepu County Committee, Vice Chairman of the Jinghepu Border Area Soviet Government, and Secretary of the Zhangpu County Committee. On January 29, 1943, he was surrounded by enemies at Hukangyan, the headquarters of the Zhangpu County Committee, and died a martyr’s death.

The site where martyr Wu Tingjian died, Hukangyan, is a natural stone cave formed by nearly a hundred massive rocks piled together in a mountain hollow. It is located at the eastern foothills of Jinping Mountain and has not been silted up due to the protection of vegetation on the mountain. In April 1984, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Zhangpu County by the Zhangpu County People's Government.

Wushe Village: Wushe Village is located in the central part of Xiamei Town, bordering Baishi and Xiamei villages to the east, Xiqi Mountain (elevation 259 meters) to the west, Huangpu Village to the south, and Meitian and Xiangnei villages to the north. The Xi Zhou Stream, originating from Xiangnei and the western Shimen area within the village, flows eastward through the village into Jiangbian Village in Zhongshe Village and then into the waters of Futou Bay. Upstream lies the Yanjing Reservoir, completed in December 1981 with a capacity of 420,000 cubic meters. The water channel runs through Huangpu Village and extends into the territory of Du’xun Town. A rural road connects to Provincial Highway Zhangdong Line, and the Zhangzhao Expressway passes through the village.
