The former site of the establishment of the Zhangpu County Committee is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former site of the establishment of the Zhangpu County Committee is located at Maping Central School in Anzai Natural Village, Houkang Village, Maping Town, Zhangpu County.

After the failure of the Great Revolution, a group of Communists in Zhangpu, including Li Lianxing (then a member of the CPC Minnan Special Committee and an executive member of the CPC Fujian Provisional Committee) and Chen Yuanzhai, used Maping Yucai School in Houkang Village, Maping Town as a cover for teaching. They propagated revolutionary ideas, reorganized the peasant associations, recruited farmers into the Party, and established party branches. The enthusiasm of peasants to participate in the revolutionary struggle quickly grew, leading to what the Fujian Provincial Committee described as “Zhangpu peasants gathering in groups at night to seek out the Communists and asking to join.” On January 10, 1928, under the leadership of the Communists, the Maping Peasant Association launched an armed resistance against donation demands imposed by the 11th Army of the warlords, marking the beginning of a new phase of armed struggle by Fujian peasants against the new warlords. The peasants were suppressed and several were killed or injured. After the “January 10th” massacre, the CPC Fujian Provisional Special Committee sent a letter to the Zhangpu Party organization. Following instructions from the Provincial Committee, party branches were subsequently established in Dakeng, Danjing, Maping, and Guansun. Building on this foundation, in the spring of 1928, under the guidance of a delegate from the CPC Fujian Provisional Committee, the Provisional CPC Zhangpu County Committee was established at Maping Central School. In March, the formal CPC Zhangpu County Committee was established, leading the armed forces of various local peasant associations in Zhangpu in armed resistance to drive the 11th Army out of southern Fujian. Zhao Yisong, then a central inspection officer of the CPC Central Committee, once guided the revolutionary struggle in southern Fujian while also serving as the acting secretary of the Zhangpu County Committee.

The former site of the establishment of the CPC Zhangpu County Committee at Maping Central School was originally built in the early 20th century with funding donated by overseas Chinese Chen Zhaoxin from Maping Town. It was formerly named Maping Yucai Primary School, featuring a fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles with an earth-and-wood structure, covering an area of 600 square meters. The former site of the establishment of the CPC Zhangpu County Committee at Maping Central School was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Zhangpu County by the Zhangpu County People’s Government in June 2004, and was recognized as a patriotism education base of Zhangpu County by the same government in May 2001.
