Houkang Chen Family Zhide Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Houkang Chen Family Zhide Hall is located in Shanqian Village, Maping Town, Zhangpu County, dating back to the Republican era.

Introduction: It was built in the early years of the Republic of China by overseas Chinese from Indonesia, Chen Yuyu and Chen Yugui. The building faces northeast and is situated southwest, consisting of an entrance hall, a central courtyard with surrounding corridors, a main hall, and left and right wing rooms. With a construction area of 1,500 square meters, it features a brick, stone, and wood structure. It is extensively decorated with various gray relief carvings of flowers, figures, and animal motifs, all vivid, lifelike, and exquisitely crafted.

In 2013, Houkang Chen Family Zhide Hall was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Maping Town: Maping Town is located in the hilly region of northeastern Zhangpu County. To the north, it borders Baishui Town of Longhai City; to the east, it adjoins Qianting Town and Bai Zhu Lake Farm; to the south, it is adjacent to Fodian Town; and to the west, it neighbors Chiling Township. Surrounded by mountains, it is named “Maping” after “Ma Mountain” and “Daping Ridge.” The town covers a land area of 5,225 square kilometers and governs six administrative villages and one town-operated farm. The town has a total of 4,297 households and 17,724 residents, with arable land area of 2 (unit unclear) and mountainous land of 330,000 mu.
