Former Site of Xingmin School

The former site of Xingmin School is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of Xingmin School is located in Gehou Natural Village, Gaijing Village, Danjing Village, Changqiao Town, Zhangpu County.

After the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, communists stationed in Zhangpu moved to Gehou Natural Village, Danjing Village, Changqiao Town to carry out peasant movement activities. A group of communists, including Li Lianxing, a member of the CPC Minnan Special Committee and an executive member of the CPC Fujian Provincial Provisional Committee, Wang Zhanchun, Cai Yongfa, and others, used the establishment of rural night schools as a cover to reorganize the peasant associations. They founded Xingmin School at the ancestral hall of the Chen family in Danjing Village. Drawing from real-life rural content, they developed teaching materials and employed methods such as performing plays and teaching local folk songs to vividly expose class exploitation and oppression, thereby enlightening and raising the class consciousness of peasants. While reorganizing and developing the peasant association organizations, they also focused on identifying and training key members, recruiting activists into the Party, and establishing the Danjing Village Party Branch. They led peasants from peaceful forms of struggle to armed resistance against taxes and levies, making it one of the earliest rural Party branches and local peasant armed forces established in Zhangpu.

In recent years, the Chen family ancestral hall at the former site of Xingmin School has been renovated and protected with a memorial plaque, and its preservation condition is relatively good.

The former site of Xingmin School was designated as a Zhangpu County Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Zhangpu County People's Government in June 2004.
