Red Army Home Memorial Hall

The Red Army Home Memorial Hall is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Red Army Home Memorial Hall is located in Cheben Village, Shiliu Town, Zhangpu County.

Cheben Village is situated in the northwestern part of Zhangpu County, nestled within the range of Wangzishi Mountain at the junction of three counties — Jing, He, and Pu. Surrounded by high mountains and dense forests, rugged peaks and overlapping cliffs, the area features treacherous terrain and limited transportation. Its remoteness from the ruling centers made it an ideal location for the Red Army guerrilla forces to wage guerrilla warfare.

On April 24, 1932, the 3rd Army of the Red Army’s Eastern Route Army captured Zhangpu, establishing the Zhangpu County Revolutionary Committee. This led to extensive land revolution struggles across urban and rural areas, including fighting against local tyrants, redistributing land, and establishing Soviet power. Cheben Village became the central area of the Jinghepu Revolutionary Base. It successively served as a base for the Red 3rd Regiment during the Agrarian Revolutionary War, as well as the headquarters for the CPC Zhangzhou Central County Committee, the CPC Jinghepu County Committee, the CPC Minyue Border Provisional Special Committee, the CPC Minyue Border Special Committee, and during the Anti-Japanese War, it was also one of the headquarters for the CPC Southern Fujian Special Committee. From the spring of 1948 onward, it became the headquarters for the CPC Jinghepu County Working Committee.

The old house that once housed the CPC Jinghepu County Working Committee is a century-old earthen structure, with walls made of adobe, classifying it as a dangerous building. In December 2012, to promote the Party’s fine traditions and the revolutionary spirit of the Red Army, the government allocated funds to renovate the site. The building covers an area of over 180 square meters, with a protected zone of 260 square meters and emergency repairs spanning 250 square meters. The total investment was approximately 1 million yuan. Over 800,000 yuan were invested in the renovation of the site itself, and more than 100,000 yuan were allocated for museum setup. The exhibition is divided into three themed display rooms: “The Flames of Little Mountain City,” “The Command Center of Southern Fujian’s Revolution,” and “The Red Flag Never Falls.” Through a wealth of precious historical photos, artifacts, and woodblock prints, the exhibition recreates the revolutionary journey of the people of Zhangpu under the leadership of the Communist Party of China during the democratic revolution period from multiple perspectives and in a comprehensive manner. It also documents the heroic deeds of revolutionary predecessors who fought arduously, advanced one after another, and sacrificed their blood and lives. The site was completed and opened on January 14, 2014, and was established as the Red Army Home Memorial Hall, becoming another patriotic education base in Zhangpu County.

The Red Army Home Memorial Hall was designated as a cultural heritage site of Zhangpu County by the Zhangpu County People's Government in June 2004. On January 28, 2013, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site under the eighth batch of provincial cultural relics protection units announced by the Fujian Provincial People's Government.

Cheben Village: I. Overview of Cheben Village

Cheben Village is located in the northeastern mountainous area of Shiliu Town, 30 kilometers from the town center. It is the most remote administrative village in the northwestern part of Zhangpu County and has the highest elevation (780 meters). It administers one natural village and two villager groups, with 100 households and a population of 432. There are currently 23 official party members, including one female party member. The total land area of the village is over 20,000 mu, with actual cultivated land covering about 400 mu. This area was formerly known as the Jinghepu border region.
