Niqiu Ruins

The Niqiu Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected by Anhui Province.

The Niqiu Ruins are located 30 kilometers north of Taihe County and about 300 meters east of the Fubao Highway.

The ruins border the Cihé River to the west, where steep cliffs have developed over time due to continuous river erosion. The current ruins measure 54 meters in length from north to south, 34 meters in width from east to west, and reach a height of nearly 10 meters. Although the site has not been excavated, thick cultural layers are visible in the eroded cross-sections along the riverbank, containing numerous clam shells, animal bones, pottery shards, and ash layers. Artifacts collected from the surface of the site include stone axes, adzes, bone needles, pottery net sinkers, sand-tempered black pottery jars, perforated bean-shaped vessels, basins, and zun-shaped containers. Decorative patterns feature cord marks, combed patterns, grid patterns, and incised designs. The cultural deposits at the site show continuity and span a broad range of time periods. Based on the analysis of collected samples, the site dates from the Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, making it of significant value for the study of ancient cultures in the Fuyang region.
