The Martyrs' Cemetery of Wei Yequn is a patriotic education base.

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Wei Yequn was built in 1986 and is located in Laoji Town, Linquan County. The cemetery consists of four parts: the burial area, the greenery zone, the triangular sculpture area, and the cemetery square, covering a total area of 5,860 square meters. Wei Yequn, born in 1898 in Xingping, Shaanxi Province, graduated from Peking Higher Normal School in 1921. He actively participated in the May Fourth Movement, founded the progressive journal “Qin Zhong” magazine, authored “A Modern History of China,” and translated “The History of the United States.” In 1923, he joined the Chinese Communist Party through the introduction of revolutionary pioneer Li Dazhao. In 1926, he served as the Deputy Minister of the Political Department at the General Headquarters of the National Revolutionary Army in Shaanxi, and in the same year went to Guangzhou to attend the Second National Congress of the Kuomintang. In 1927, he was invited to serve in the forces of General Yang Hucheng in northern Anhui, where he held the positions of Director of the Political Department, instructor at the Sanmin Officers’ School, and Secretary of the Northern Anhui Special Committee of the CCP. In April 1928, he organized and launched the famous “April 9th” Uprising in northern Anhui. After the uprising failed, he was tragically killed by local bandits while leading his troops in a breakout attempt near Laoji, Linquan, at the age of just 31. Over the past 26 years, the Martyrs' Cemetery of Wei Yequn has used various means—such as report meetings, symposiums, Tomb-Sweeping Day ceremonies, and oath-taking events during major holidays—to inspire, educate, and motivate people with the spirit of Wei Yequn. The efforts have yielded positive results, receiving over 3 million visitors, including People's Liberation Army soldiers, school teachers and students, and people from all walks of life. More than 300 patriotism and revolutionary tradition education activities have been conducted in diverse formats.
