Laoguizui Ruins

The Laoguizui Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected by the Anhui Provincial Government.

Laoguizui is located on the southern bank of the Liuan River, about 1 kilometer west of Linquan County in Anhui Province. Also known as the Tomb of Shenzi, it measures over 50 meters in length, more than 20 meters in width, and over 10 meters in height. Legend has it that Dan Jizai was enfeoffed in Shen and was buried here after his death. However, archaeologists have determined that this is a cultural site from the Neolithic Age, as the area is covered with fragments of pottery, broken stone tools, and production implements. Artifacts unearthed here include stone axes, stone adzes, stone arrowheads, stone knives, pottery square tripods, pottery spinning wheels, as well as bone knives, bone needles, bone arrowheads, and bone fish forks. Originally much larger, Laoguizui has been significantly reduced in size due to long-term erosion by heavy rains along the banks of the Liuan River and deep plowing by farmers. The site now sits on higher ground with dry terrain, fronted by a vast plain and backed by the Liuan River, representing a village from primitive society.
